Worship

Each Sunday at 10am

We are a liturgical worshiping community.  What that means is that we take seriously the fact that Christians have been worshiping (at least) weekly for almost 2000 years.  Through the centuries, wise and insightful people have developed features of worship that address both the intellect and the emotions, the rational and the mystical.  On any given Sunday every one of us comes to meet God with our own hopes, fear, desires, needs.  The worship we share should embody elements that meet each one of us where we are in life, and guide us closer to the One who called us together.

Our music ranges from Bach to the blues.  Our prayers are ancient and modern.  Our style is dignified yet relaxed and informal.  And our worship in the sanctuary leads naturally to worship in the world as we apply the love God shares with us with those we meet in daily life.

Taking a Closer Look-
Being a liturgical worshipping community means that we find the center of faith in remembering the life and teachings of Jesus.  We do this through a three-year cycle based on the four gospel accounts. This year we're hearing highlights of the gospel of Luke as it is read out loud in worship, about 10-20 verses each Sunday.
These weekly readings are set in the context of a rich, participatory worship experience. Prayers, responsive readings, written reflections, plays and other ways of expression are led by our pastor in collaboration with our music staff and many of our members and friends.
Some of us are more active in worship while others are happy to just be a part of responsive readings and joining the “amen” at the end of a prayer.  Whatever our preference, we're united in seeking a deeper experience of God's presence and power.
Right now we are leaving the Christmas season and getting ready for Ash Wednesday (February 17) and Lent (February 17-Easter Sunday April 4). We have a Confirmation class this year that will be active in worship leadership. These young people are looking at some contemporary modes of worship and we’re excited about that. Check back here in a couple weeks where you will find more about Ash Wednesday and the upcoming journey toward the Great Day of Resurrection!
