Worship

Each Sunday at 9 am (June thru August)

We are a liturgical worshiping community.  What that means is that we take seriously the fact that Christians have been worshiping (at least) weekly for almost 2000 years.  Through the centuries, wise and insightful people have developed features of worship that address both the intellect and the emotions, the rational and the mystical.  On any given Sunday every one of us comes to meet God with our own hopes, fear, desires, needs.  The worship we share should embody elements that meet each one of us where we are in life, and guide us closer to the One who called us together.

Our music ranges from Bach to the blues.  Our prayers are ancient and modern.  Our style is dignified yet relaxed and informal.  And our worship in the sanctuary leads naturally to worship in the world as we apply the love God shares with us with those we meet in daily life.

Events to celebrate in May included receiving eight new members on the 16th, and celebrating the confirmation of seven young people on Pentecost Sunday, May 23rd! Pentecost was a BIG day for our community, as we also celebrated communion, recognized graduates, and, following worship, enjoyed a giant B-B-Q meal.

Summer is almost here, and we're preparing for two big events: the youth mission trip with YouthWorks to Milwauukee, Wisconsin, and a community-wide summer day camp for kids (Check out our "Education and Fellowahip" tab). Both events will be celebrated with children and youth taking part in worship leadership.

Below is a "Hi, Mom!" photo of the confirmation class on retreat recently at Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center near Estes Park.  We are so proud of you guys!

Taking a Closer Look-
Being a liturgical worshipping community means that we find the center of faith in remembering the life and teachings of Jesus.  We do this through a three-year cycle based on the four gospel accounts. This year we're hearing highlights of the gospel of Luke as it is read out loud in worship, about 10-20 verses each Sunday.
These weekly readings are set in the context of a rich, participatory worship experience. Prayers, responsive readings, written reflections, plays and other ways of expression are led by our pastor in collaboration with our music staff and many of our members and friends.
Some of us are more active in worship while others are happy to just be a part of responsive readings and joining the “amen” at the end of a prayer.  Whatever our preference, we're united in seeking a deeper experience of God's presence and power.

Most important, the goal of our liturgical worship-centered community is to equip us to live joyful lives and to make the kingdom real: here at church, in our families, in the workplace, in our other networks of personal relationships (civic life, hobby clubs, school, what-have-you), and, through missions, in the world at large.  We want to serve Jesus and have a great time doing it- and even when circumstances in our lives are tragic, challenging, or just confusing, we want to make our lives a testament to hope.
